Things we have learned while painting our home & thought we would share.. 1. Instead of painting your ceiling white, paint your ceiling the same color as your walls but a lighter shade. Example we painted our walls BM Swiss Coffee 75% strength and our ceiling the same colors but at 25%. (All paint colors are at 100% and you can change the strength by adding more white to the paint. The lower the percent the more white so 75% is less white than 25%). 2. Color drenching..you have probably been seeing this everywhere lately. It is the idea of painting your walls and ceiling the same color, usually the trim as well. Color drenching creates a more dramatic, cohesive & cozy room. Would you try these in your home? Teflon, also known as polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), is a non-stick coating commonly used on pots and pans. It was discovered in 1938 and has since become popular for its convenience in cooking, requiring little to no oil and easy cleanup. However, there’s a hidden danger lurking in this seemingly miraculous invention—it’s harmful to your health, especially for women seeking a non-toxic lifestyle. The chemicals in PTFE, when heated, release a toxic compound called perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). This compound has been linked to various hormone-disrupting symptoms such as infertility, thyroid disease, and fetal development issues. In fact, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has labeled these compounds as “likely carcinogens.” So, what are the safe alternatives for your cookware? 1. Ceramic cookware is a popular choice as it offers a non-stick surface without the harmful chemicals PTFE and PFOA. It’s easy to maintain and comes at a comparable price to regular non-stick cookware. 2. Cast Iron is another excellent option for non-toxic cooking. Although it requires some extra care, a well-seasoned cast iron pan can provide a non-stick surface. 3. Stainless Steel is a reliable choice for non-stick cooking as well. Just remember to use high-quality fats when cooking at higher temperatures, as food may stick. 4. Glass bakeware is a safe option and is available in various sizes, including loaf pans and pie dishes. 5. Stoneware is another fantastic choice, offering a non-stick option with a PTFE-free coating. But as temps drop, you’ll want to be extra prepared. Here are some tips to help you keep warm this fall: 🔥 Get an Alpha Cruiser: Our new favorite mid layer! A lightweight, cozy layer like an Alpha Cruiser is perfect for hikes in cooler temps. It has an amazing warmth to weight ratio. 🛌 Double up on sleeping pads: The ground will feel extra cold this time of year. Bring a sleeping pad with high R-value or double up with a foam Z-pad. 🍁 Swap your summer sleeping bag/quilt for a warmer one: Use a bag rated at least 10°F lower than the expected nighttime temperatures. If you only have an all-season sleeping bag, add a liner which can add up to 10 degrees. 🤚 Bring hand & toe warmers: These are great whether you’re hiking on the trail or tucked in for the night. We love sticking toe warmers on our socks at night to keep our feet warm. 🪶 Bring warm down jackets for at camp: Once you stop moving, the temperature drops fast. A warm, lightweight down jacket is essential for staying cozy at camp, think around 800-fill insulation or higher. 🛖 Still think it’s too cold to camp? Book a backcountry cabin instead of a tent! ✨Flooring Reveal!✨ Years ago, we installed flooring from Costco in a previous house and were so impressed — it was easy to install, amazing quality, and held up perfectly over the years. For the cabin, we wanted something durable and waterproof, so LVP was an easy choice. Once I decided on that, I checked to see if the same brand was still at Costco — and sure enough, Golden Select still supplies their flooring there! Going with them again was a no-brainer! Now let’s talk about the colour. I wanted something that complemented the existing pine ceiling without being too matchy-matchy, and this one is perfect. It’s called Vintage Oak, and you can find it (and other shades) at Costco! I can not believe the difference the flooring made in here! Looking for a cheaper option to staying in Jackson Hole? Try a cabin on the Idaho side at @Teton Valley Resort 🏠 It’s about a 35 min drive into Jackson and it’s soo cozy I chose the dry cabin which has no plumbing. Private and dorm style bath facilities were a 30-45 sec walk from my cabin.
