This is what I cooked for this weekend tournament for 3 days and a family of 4👇 My mom did help me make some because hockey grandma is the GOAT! 2 pasta salads - both with protein pasta for extra benefits and low prep! Grilled chicken + rice Buffalo chicken dip + artichoke dip (homemade) My mom made Rice Krispie treats + broccoli cheddar soup with little sourdough bread bowls All go in a cooler! Other things I pack in a tote: @Waterboy hydration packets @HYDROJUG for waters Paper plates/plastic silverware @BUILT.BAR protein bars Pringles Chex mix Tortilla chips (for dips) And the benefit of staying at hotels is most have breakfast, so we do that in the morning! This is how we stay healthy, save money, and basically live out of hotels from September - April! I hope this helps give a more realistic version of what a regular family is doing for travel hockey + how I make it all work without feeling so overwhelmed! Wishing my #grandmother a #happybirthday she’s my last remaining grandparent and she just turned 81. We had the sweetest chat about our bond, me growing up in Queens NYC, my trip to Trinidad with her for the summer, my obsession with her food and how close we've always been. She’s always supported me even when my Father , her son did not. My grandmother was always a stunner! She’s 5’10 and had a short buzz cut bleached blonde since I was a child. She was thee Amber Rose and the Cis Shanice Ebony before they came onto the scene. Prior to her short cut her hair was down to her waist and salt and pepper before she even turned 40. She had the storm effect as a young woman but she was always striking. The model features that my dad had that was passed down to me came from her. Such a remarkably beautiful woman. Beyond her physical beauty was her kind heart. My grandmother is so charitable. In Trinidad we would go grocery shopping in the week and on Mondays and Fridays my grandmother would bake fresh bread, and I would help her make sandwiches, and pack lunch bags for the homeless and houseless communities in Trinidad. We would go to chapel and church Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. We would feed everyone outside the chapels and churches every week. My grandmother taught me the importance of giving back, taking care of your neighbor and being a good person. She loves the Lord and the church was a big part of my time with her in Trinidad. A Soiritual Baptist. Incorporating African Religion into Christianity. A way to cope being descendants of African slaves. I remember my grandmother making me go in the living room to rub on all my Mosquito ointments before coming to bed and I had to say my prayers every night. She made sure I was anointed. Such a powerful woman. As I celebrate my grandmother, I also celebrate #trinidad emancipation day! 40 years of being free! I'm so proud to be a #trini 🇹🇹 #happybirthdaygrandma #grandma #grandmother

Grief hit me like a ton of bricks this morning so here we are💔My actual letter: Dear grandma, You know how hard it is for me to write this right now. I miss you so much. You had a beautiful 92 years of life and I’m so sad that you’re gone. I have so many things to thank you for. I write this letter because over the past couple years I feel like I’ve missed so much of time with you that I can’t get back all over resentment towards my father. Ever since my grandmother health started declined, I’ve been by her side in the nursing home, always going to go see her and make sure she was comfortable. God knows that we all hated those places but when she went to stay with my dad, things were just never the same. yes, I would still go see her. My resentment towards my father kept me away after awhile. I am the only girl and the baby out of all boys on my dad side and my grandmother is the only reason why we are so close or even a family on that side I should say. My grandmother has always showed each and every one of us unconditional love to the very end. If that’s one of the main things, I will miss the most is her love. I’m sorry for not coming around as much because of the grudge I had against my father because he didn’t know how to be one. I will forever cherish the times that we had together how we connected on a deeper level that no one could understand because I was the only girl and you was my girl. I was not one of those kids that wanted to be at a friend house every weekend I want to be over my grandmother’s house every weekend. Just in her presence it was so much love at her house. I always want to be with her so when she failed ill I don’t think I knew how to process it then just like I don’t know how to process her death now. Is it almost a month since her transition and this is the first day that my body has allowed me to truly process it and cry about it. The devil has been working in many ways but I will not let him win. I miss you so much, grandma you just don’t know what I would do to hear your voice or to see your face again with that beautiful smile, and hear that cute little laugh….. I just wanna say Whatever resentment you have towards someone for whatever reason, please just “Let Them” & only control what you can control. Don’t let your resentment towards someone else have you missing out on precious moments with your loved ones that truly matter cause you don’t know when it will be the last.
