I’m not very good at maintaining friendships. I had kids before the rest of my friends and moved continents after the first one was born so not many of my friendships have survived that. Not everyone understood my change in priorities and lack of time, and I didn’t realize how depressed I was during my first years of motherhood/living in a new country. But she has always been there, steadfast, as my roommate, sister, friend and confidant. 20 years of friendship, starting wherever we left off. If you have a Lolo, send her this 💌
Going on vacation and *not* seeing all the hot spots cause I was busy resting is my new flex and #Brachmadrid is my new favorite place to go and do that. We went with plans to schlep around town and wound up spending a lot of our days eating our weight at their restaurant and getting treatments at their spa, Capsule. I had my first lymphatic drainage massage which was insane, I seriously think I dropped a couple of kgs from it. Toph did an hour long session in their hyperbaric (!!!) chamber. They also have a sensory deprivation tank, a sauna and steam room, gym, mental health sessions and yoga room. I was blown away by the attention to detail in this hotel, if I had to describe it in two words it would be “quiet luxury”. It’s designed by Phillipe Starck who clearly has an appreciation for Spanish craft and design. The dark terrazzo floors, wood paneling and earth colored tiles made the place feel really warm and inviting. I might have to steal a couple of ideas for my own house. What really stood out was the incredible staff at Brach, you can tell everyone there loves their job. So if you’re ever planning a trip to Madrid, put Brach at the top of the list of places to go ❤️ @Evok Collection
Regaining financial independence in time for my husband’s 46th birthday was not in the list of things I imagined would happen this year. Taking him on a trip to Madrid isn’t something he would’ve agreed to let me organize and it’s certainly not something I could’ve managed on a candle-maker’s salary. It might seem trivial but my husband is the kindest and most supportive partner someone could wish for. He’s supported every hair brain idea I’ve had for the past decade, full force. He’s given me the space to become whole again after giving up my career and becoming a mom. So every year, when his birthday rolls around, I scramble to come up with something thoughtful enough to match the love that he gives me. It always comes out of the “joint account” which we both know is there thanks to his earnings. I know it’s more nuanced than that and that being home with the kids gave him the space and time to earn for us but when you’re financially dependent on your partner, it really affects your self-worth. Life is funny, a simple reel changed the trajectory of my work this year, and now means I can treat my husband to the thing he loves most: traveling and discovering new places. Feeling free. Happy birthday to the man who gives me everything and who deserves that and so much more! ILY @SOHN
38 summers ago, my parents bought a house in the Pyrenees. I never imagined life would take me all the way to LA but what was even more unimaginable is that this place would bring me back to Spain (a whole 25 years after we moved to the US). When I became a mom, it became so clear the only path forward was to move home to Spain so I could give my children the summers I had up here. It’s been 8 summers since we made the decision to leave it all behind for the sake of our kids, and what felt like a decision we made for them… ended up being the best decision we ever made for ourselves.
Let’s normalize unconventional sleeping arrangements. I know we don’t all have the option, a guest room is a massive privilege. But I just want to shed light on the issue that not all couples sleep in the same bed, that kids are massively disruptive to our sleep, and that everyone should do what they can to feel fresh in the morning. Massive thank you to @Nordic Knots for this beautiful new rug #gift
I posted this on the other app where I have a lot more followers lol. But for those of you asking what I’m doing now that I’ve shut down my candle business, this is what I’m doing.
