Wishing my #grandmother a #happybirthday she’s my last remaining grandparent and she just turned 81. We had the sweetest chat about our bond, me growing up in Queens NYC, my trip to Trinidad with her for the summer, my obsession with her food and how close we've always been. She’s always supported me even when my Father , her son did not. My grandmother was always a stunner! She’s 5’10 and had a short buzz cut bleached blonde since I was a child. She was thee Amber Rose and the Cis Shanice Ebony before they came onto the scene. Prior to her short cut her hair was down to her waist and salt and pepper before she even turned 40. She had the storm effect as a young woman but she was always striking. The model features that my dad had that was passed down to me came from her. Such a remarkably beautiful woman. Beyond her physical beauty was her kind heart. My grandmother is so charitable. In Trinidad we would go grocery shopping in the week and on Mondays and Fridays my grandmother would bake fresh bread, and I would help her make sandwiches, and pack lunch bags for the homeless and houseless communities in Trinidad. We would go to chapel and church Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. We would feed everyone outside the chapels and churches every week. My grandmother taught me the importance of giving back, taking care of your neighbor and being a good person. She loves the Lord and the church was a big part of my time with her in Trinidad. A Soiritual Baptist. Incorporating African Religion into Christianity. A way to cope being descendants of African slaves. I remember my grandmother making me go in the living room to rub on all my Mosquito ointments before coming to bed and I had to say my prayers every night. She made sure I was anointed. Such a powerful woman. As I celebrate my grandmother, I also celebrate #trinidad emancipation day! 40 years of being free! I'm so proud to be a #trini 🇹🇹 #happybirthdaygrandma #grandma #grandmother
