I dreaded this day so much but I knew I had to wean A off the pacifier before it gets harder especially knowing how A is. He loved his pacifiers. We loved the pacifiers. All the car rides, nap times, bedtime, whenever he got fussy, the pacifiers were sooooo clutch. I also dreaded this day because I felt like he was really growing up. I associate the pacifier with his infant stage so much. It’s another reality check time isn’t slowing down. I wanted this process to be as smooth as possible. I asked so many other parents how they weaned their child off their pacifier. I researched the best ways to do it so it wouldn’t be too hard for him or us. When it actually came down to it, it didn’t go exactly how I imagined it and if anything I felt so horrible that we had to take the one thing that gave him comfort and security. I’ve never seen him this devastated over a loss and it literally broke my heart. This is what parenting is. You can do your very best and hope for the best but sometimes it’s not going to and that’s ok. Through this experience, I realized how resilient A is and this is one of many experiences he’ll go through and have to adapt. Night one was rough, but he’s doing so much better each and everyday.
