🥨 Crackers, Goldfish, Pretzels, Chips, Puffs all can damage teeth (just as much as cookies or sweets!) for a few reasons: •These salty snacks are simple starches and convert to sugar quickly •The bacteria that causes cavities feeds on simple starches and sugars •The more simple starches and/or sugars in the mouth ➡️ the more fuel for the bacteria to cause cavities •Crackers, goldfish, pretzels, chips, and puffs stick around in the grooves of the teeth and are a constant food source for the bacteria that causes cavities •This is why brushing, flossing, or rinsing these foods from these areas eliminates the fuel for the bad bacteria for the cavities 🍪TIP: If your kids have crackers, goldfish, pretzels, chips or puffs (as well as cookies, baked goods, sweets) — having carrots, apple slices, cauliflower or another crunchy veg or fruit after helps clean out the grooves of the teeth. Rinsing with water after is an added bonus! 🧀TIP: Some alternatives that are tooth-friendly include cheese, apple slices, seaweed, sugar snap peas, meats, eggs, raw crunchy veggies, raw leafy veggies, 100% nut butters and meats. ✨It’s easy to suggest NOT buying these snacks, but we are very aware that these snacks are easy-on-the-go options and work well for a lot of families. It’s unrealistic to swear off these snacks, and the alternatives are not always affordable or realistic. We share this information for raising awareness and offering different tips! 🪥Some more Important Prevention Tips: •Try to have a sip of water after ever meal or snack •Give your child 4-6 organized “mini-meals” a day with only water in between (to curb snacking/grazing throughout the day) •Disorganized eating (i.e. snacking through day) will cause cavities even with healthy food •Only have water after night time brushing so the teeth stay clean during sleep hours 🥼Consult with your personal health care providers for advice. My #1 tip for parents: Start flossing as soon as your child’s teeth touch! Cavities love hiding between back molars — and those teeth stick around for years! #ParentTips #KidsOralCare #firstgrin #oralhealth

Even if it’s half juice, half water—frequent sipping still bathes baby teeth in sugar and makes the mouth more acidic by lowering the pH more FREQUENTLY. I know many people do this for cost savings, and this PSA is a separate awareness point around frequency of juice and dental health! Both can co-exist 💖 ⏰ It’s not just about how much sugar—it’s how OFTEN their teeth are exposed to it. 💧 Aim to stick to water between meals, and if you’re offering juice, pair it with a meal when saliva is already flowing to help protect their teeth. #babyteeth #cavityprevention #toddlermomlife #parenting #parents

Did you notice changes in your mouth and teeth when you were pregnant? #pregnant #pregnancy #teeth #dentist

👶🦷 POV: You had cavities as a kid and worry your baby will too. 🦷 Same. I had cavities in my baby teeth—and grew up in a time when dentistry was mostly reactive. You went to the dentist when something hurt. The focus was on treating problems, not preventing them. Now we know better. Cavities are the #1 chronic disease in children, and they don’t just disappear with baby teeth. They’re linked to decay in adult teeth and can affect nutrition, sleep, and overall health. 🪥 As a pediatric dentist and a mom, I get how hard it can be to stay on top of routines with a squirmy toddler or an overtired baby. 🌈 That’s why I created @pediatric.dentist.mom and built @Firstgrin—to make early dental care practical, evidence-based, and easy for real life. 🦷 Our Intro Oral Care Kits are the baby registry gift I wish existed when I was a new mom—packed with everything you need to get started (no gimmicks, just the essentials, curated by me). 📱 And our Firstgrin companion app helps guide you through each stage with: – What to expect by age – When to start brushing, flossing, and seeing a dentist – Reminders, real-life tips, and videos – A personalized oral health risk quiz for your family 💡 If you’ve ever thought, “I just want to do this right, but I don’t know where to start,” you’re in the right place. 🦷 If this was helpful, share it and follow @pediatric.dentist.mom for more tips—and check out Firstgrin for the kits and support I designed to make it all less overwhelming. ❓Did you have cavities growing up? #firstgrin #babyteeth #momlife #baby

🍼Some tips from @sharonmazel on weaning from the bottle to a cup “❤️SAVE this post for future reference. And DOUBLE TAP if you find it helpful! Weaning from the bottle as soon as possible after the first birthday is recommended for so many reasons: Bottle drinkers tend to drink too much (your baby doesn’t need more than 16-20 ounces of milk after 12 months old), there’s a higher risk of cavities, ear infections, and overweight if bottle drinking continues past the first year, and the older a child is, the harder it is to detach from the bottles. So introduce the cup early (at 6 months) and start the weaning process at 12 months old.”
