you can understand your trauma. name your patterns. read the books. go to therapy. be deeply self-aware. yet you still have a body that panics, braces, shuts down, or dissociates. because regulation isn’t a mindset. it’s a physiological state. and when your nervous system is activated, it’s not looking for a better thought — it’s looking for safety. that’s why trauma healing can’t just live in insight. it has to include the body. breath, grounding, movement, orienting, co-regulation… these aren’t “extras.” they’re the language the nervous system understands. your mind isn’t the problem — it’s been trying to protect you.
