Pack EVERYTHING out ⤵️ Let’s talk about how to be a responsible hiker during larch season AND a government shutdown… When park staff and rangers aren’t around, it’s on us all to step up and protect the places we love. Here’s how to do your part during a government shutdown (and during the ongoing staff shortage): 🌲 Leave No Trace (Always) – Just because no one’s watching doesn’t mean the rules disappear. Stay on trail, camp in established areas, and pack out everything, including toilet paper. 🗑 Pack it out (for real) – With trash services limited or paused, whatever you bring in, you must bring out. If you see someone else’s litter, pack that out too. It sucks to pick up others trash but it’s a small action that makes a difference and models the right behavior. 🔥 Skip the campfires – Fire bans and permits might not be actively enforced, but that doesn’t mean it’s safe to burn. Use a stove instead and help prevent wildfires. 🚽 Handle waste properly – Restrooms may be locked or unmaintained. Dig proper catholes (6–8 inches deep, 200 feet from water) or pack it out with a WAG bag. 🗣 Speak up (if you feel safe to do so) – If you see others breaking rules or damaging fragile areas, a friendly reminder can go a long way. Most people just don’t know better. 🎫 Respect permits and quotas – Even if enforcement is paused, those systems exist to protect fragile ecosystems and limit overuse. If you didn’t get a permit, save it for another time. 🚫 Respect closures – If areas are officially closed, don’t go. Fragile ecosystems and infrastructure can easily be damaged without oversight. The wild places we love don’t stop needing care when the government shuts down. This is our chance to show that the outdoor community can protect these spaces. 🏔️responsible backpacking tips 🥾trail etiquette during larch season🌲 hiking responsibly during a government shutdown #larch #fallhiking #protectourparks #leavenotrace #northcascades

Yes you need it ⤵️ Ultralight backpacking gear is expensive, but once you switch over, you’ll never go back! 🎒 So when you find a piece of gear for under $3 that works well and lasts for YEARS, it’s worth celebrating. Enter the pack liner, and yes it’s better than a pack cover. ✨SEND this to your backpacking buddies! 🌧️ when rain is in the forecast, instead of putting a cover over your pack, we use this INSIDE our @Hyperlite Mountain Gear packs to keep all our gear dry. The Hyperlite packs are already waterproof, the new versions of the core packs are even more so now. So all you need to do is add a liner for extra insurance and you’re good to go. 🥾 Let me know if you have questions! Keep warm with these tips ⤵️ ✨ SEND this to the person you want to backpack with this fall or winter! Fall backpacking is so amazing and something every backpacker should experience. But as temps drop, you’ll want to be extra prepared. Here are some tips to help you keep warm this fall: 🔥 Get an Alpha Cruiser: Our new favorite mid layer! A lightweight, cozy layer like an Alpha Cruiser is perfect for hikes in cooler temps. It has an amazing warmth to weight ratio. 🛌 Double up on sleeping pads: The ground will feel extra cold this time of year. Bring a sleeping pad with high R-value or double up with a foam Z-pad. 🍁 Swap your summer sleeping bag/quilt for a warmer one: Use a bag rated at least 10°F lower than the expected nighttime temperatures. If you only have an all-season sleeping bag, add a liner which can add up to 10 degrees. 🤚 Bring hand & toe warmers: These are great whether you’re hiking on the trail or tucked in for the night. We love sticking toe warmers on our socks at night to keep our feet warm. 🪶 Bring warm down jackets for at camp: Once you stop moving, the temperature drops fast. A warm, lightweight down jacket is essential for staying cozy at camp, think around 800-fill insulation or higher. 🛖 Still think it’s too cold to camp? Book a backcountry cabin instead of a tent! You’ll stay out of the wind, have a dry place to cook, and get a little extra comfort without sacrificing the wilderness feel. Perfect for late-season trips. ⛺️ backpacking tips 🥾 cold weather backpacking 🍁 how to stay warmer this fall 🏔️ tips for beginner backpackers —————————— . . #backpacking #fallhike #backpackingtips #banff #autumn
How to avoid these mistakes ⤵️ 🫶🏻 SEND this to the person you want to backpack with this winter! Backpacking in the fall & winter is so amazing, but there’s definitely more to think about and plan for than in the summer. [Save this for backpack planning] 🙈 Yes, we’ve actually made all these mistakes, or just didn’t have the right gear with us at the time. Avoid these real mistakes: 🧊 Frozen water filters - We left our filter outside overnight with our food bag and it froze. Instead, keep it in the tent with you to keep it warm. ⛄️ Forgotten gaiters - When transitioning from summer to fall it’s easy to forget the trail changes too! Be ready for early season snowfall especially if you’re going up in altitude. Skye made her own with duct tape to keep snow out of her approach shoes. ⛈️ Underestimating the weather - This time of year, weather can change suddenly and not follow the forecast. White out conditions, icy rain and high winds should be considered when packing. Always bring a rain shell. 🥾 Wearing the wrong shoes - We’re guilty of stretching our trail runners too far into the snowy trail season. Be sure to have waterproof boots and warm socks for long soggy trail days. 🧣Warmer sleep systems - The combination of earlier, colder, and wetter nights make it easy to underestimate the need for a warmer bag and a high R-value pad.
