Acid reflux can occur when stomach acid is high or low. It’s often assumed in allopathic medicine it’s always high and PPIs are given. You definitely don’t want reflux because it’s uncomfortable, but long term it can lead to esophageal damage and cellular changes. The majority of my clients actually have LOW stomach acid. I wrote an article about navigating acid reflux - comment REFLUX and I’ll send it over. 1. CHRONIC STRESS I’m talking long term stress in which the gut brain connection is impacted. Your nervous system plays a role in your digestive function and if digestive juices are flowing. This isn’t your everyday healthy stress. 2. H PYLORI Note that you have to have very high levels to test positive in western medicine because they give you 4 antibiotics and a PPI. It takes a toll on the body. Only 3 of my clients tested high with their doc, BUT countless have tested high on the stool test I offer because it actually tells you a number (not just yes or no, there’s a range). Morale of the story, support the person and their symptoms. How do I know it worked? Their reflux goes away and it’s negative on a re-test 3. LOW MINERALS Minerals are required to make stomach acid! Zinc, sodium and potassium are the three I focus on. These are best measured in tissue such as hair as that’s where the majority of minerals are stored. Low sodium: feeling dehydrated, overwhelmed, anxious, craving salty foods Low potassium: constipation or slower transit time common Zinc: immunity and hormone connection Which foods to eat?
