When that culture is rooted in high-control religion, it often teaches people to disconnect from their bodies, override their instincts, and silence their inner knowing in favor of obedience. In my Utah-based therapy practice, I see the impact of this every day. Chronic anxiety. Shame woven into identity. Difficulty trusting joy. Feeling unsafe in rest. People blaming themselves for trauma they never consented to. Religious trauma doesn’t always look like a single event—it’s often a series of subtle (and not-so-subtle) messages that slowly erode a person’s sense of autonomy, safety, and worth. Técnica con la que mejor me bajo las raíces: Con esta herramienta (Dyson Airwrap Coanda 2x) se me hace muchísimo más fácil bajarme las raíces a la hora del secado. Este cepillo no sé qué es lo que tiene, pero tiene un agarrado muy fuerte: agarra el cabello con fuerza, lo que ayuda a estirarlo bien y al hacerle fuerza al mechón, lo seca al instante. Las raíces quedan laceas, casi como cuando nos pasamos un blower. Importante: el pelo tiene que estar mojado. ¿Por qué? Porque cuando el cabello está mojado, las fibras capilares están más flexibles. El calor combinado con la tensión (estirarlo) ayuda a que el pelo se “moldee” lacio mientras se seca. Si el pelo ya está seco, está en su forma natural y es más difícil cambiarla —por eso baja más las raíces cuando lo hacemos mojado, igualito que con el blower. El truquito está en asegurarnos de que estemos haciéndole fuerza al pelo (estirándolo). No bajar a las puntas hasta que la raíz esté lisa y seca, y luego, poco a poco, bajamos a las puntas para dar forma. Señores, esta técnica no se aprende de la noche a la mañana… es cuestión de practicar, practicar, practicar. Si usted no sabe darle vueltas al cepillo para hacer esta ondita al final: no invente. Pack EVERYTHING out ⤵️ Let’s talk about how to be a responsible hiker during larch season AND a government shutdown… When park staff and rangers aren’t around, it’s on us all to step up and protect the places we love. Here’s how to do your part during a government shutdown (and during the ongoing staff shortage): 🌲 Leave No Trace (Always) – Just because no one’s watching doesn’t mean the rules disappear. Stay on trail, camp in established areas, and pack out everything, including toilet paper. 🗑 Pack it out (for real) – With trash services limited or paused, whatever you bring in, you must bring out. If you see someone else’s litter, pack that out too. It sucks to pick up others trash but it’s a small action that makes a difference and models the right behavior. 🔥 Skip the campfires – Fire bans and permits might not be actively enforced, but that doesn’t mean it’s safe to burn. Use a stove instead and help prevent wildfires. 🚽 Handle waste properly – Restrooms may be locked or unmaintained. Dig proper catholes (6–8 inches deep, 200 feet from water) or pack it out with a WAG bag. 🗣 Speak up (if you feel safe to do so) – If you see others breaking rules or damaging fragile areas, a friendly reminder can go a long way. Most people just don’t know better. 🎫 Respect permits and quotas – Even if enforcement is paused, those systems exist to protect fragile ecosystems and limit overuse. If you didn’t get a permit, save it for another time. 🚫 Respect closures – If areas are officially closed, don’t go. Fragile ecosystems and infrastructure can easily be damaged without oversight. Be ready for early season snowfall especially if you’re going up in altitude. Skye made her own with duct tape to keep snow out of her approach shoes. ⛈️ Underestimating the weather - This time of year, weather can change suddenly and not follow the forecast. White out conditions, icy rain and high winds should be considered when packing. HEAL ME CHICKEN SOUP🍜🐔 If you wanna cozy soup to make for the cold weather or feel like you are getting sick you gotta make this!! Ginger, garlic, and green onions all have natural anti-microbial properties and the bone broth gives you tons of support for your immune system! Ingredients: ⁃ 2 lb chicken breast ⁃ 8 cloves of garlic, sliced ⁃ 1 large piece of ginger that is peeled and sliced ⁃ 8 green onions (white part for soup, green part to top afterwards) ⁃ 6 cups of water ⁃ 4 cups of bone broth ⁃ 8-10 oz of rice noodles ⁃ 1 cup carrots ⁃ Salt and pepper Sauce: ⁃ 1/4 cup rice vinegar ⁃ 1/4 cup tamari (soy sauce) ⁃ 2 tbsp sesame oil ⁃ 1-2 tbsp of crispy chili oil (depending on how spicy you want it) Instructions: 1. Place the chicken, garlic, ginger, green onions (white), water, bone broth, salt and pepper in a large pot or dutch oven. 2. Bring to a boil and then simmer for 15-18 minutes to cook the chicken. Use a meat thermometer to make sure chicken is cooked through. 3. While the chicken is cooking, place all sauce ingredients in a small bowl and mix together and set aside. 4. Once chicken is done, take the chicken breast out and place in a large bowl. Shred with two forks. 5. After chicken is removed from the pot, add in the rice noodles and carrots to cook. This should only take around 5-6 minutes but look at the cooking instructions on the rice noodle packet. 6. Once noodles are cooked and chicken is shredded, add the chicken back to the pot and stir to combine. 7. Serve the soup in a bowl and add the tamari/vinegar sauce on top and add in the rest of the green onions. We put on a few tablespoons of the tamari sauce for an extra little kick! Friendsgiving or thanksgiving appetizer! Pumpkin baked Brie. Perfect touch to a charcuterie board. Screen shot the recipe at the end! - [ ] Frozen Puff pastry sheet (thaw before use or microwave for 15 seconds each side) - [ ] Wheel of Brie, apricot jam, 1 egg white - [ ] Cinnamon stick & sage leaves & Cooking twine Directions - [ ] Preheat oven to 375° - [ ] Lay out puff pastry, add a few spoonfuls of jam in the center, place Brie wheel onto the jam. Cut puff pastry into a circle then wrap it around the Brie, pinching the edges - [ ] Cut the twine and tie them around the pastry brie wheel turning it into a pumpkin. Make sure the knotted side is down before coating with egg whites. - [ ] Bake in oven for 20 minutes. Let it cool for 5-10 minutes, then cut the strings to remove them. - [ ] Add your cinnamon stick stem and sage leaves. Make sure to lay the leaves first before adding the stick to help tuck them in. Serve with apples, crackers, and bread.
