Brain Fog Sucks! Perimenopause or Aging?
I know the term “food noise” has been thrown around a lot more since ozempic and other glp1s have become mainstream.. but I’m honestly thankful for that. I didn’t realize how often I think about food.. and by that I don’t just mean eating it, or needing to eat/binge/crave… it’s thinking of not eating, or not “overeating” because I’ve always struggled with weight.. it’s thinking “I shouldn’t have eaten that” as soon as I finish something that might put me over my daily calorie deficit (I’ve been struggling to lose 10 extra lbs for 2 years) .. or a food I know won’t make me feel good .. constantly thinking “tomorrow I just won’t eat much” to balance it out.. because of the sheer frustration of “doing it right” and getting nowhere.. or losing a lb after 2 months only to gain it back after 1 weekend celebrating my birthday.. I realized food noise is so much more than just craving bad food.. it’s ALWAYS thinking about food and when you should eat, when you shouldn’t, what you should eat, what you shouldn’t.. and it’s exhausting and can be extremely frustrating. I think the last 2 years have only gotten worse and I truly believe it’s perimenopause. Most might look at me and say “but you’re not fat” .. I’m not “skinny” or “in shape” or feeling my best these days either.. it’s a battle.. and I understand why people get tired and look for a way to help. For years I just thought it was because I was overweight, but even when I was at my lowest body weight percentage and working out.. I still heard it. I made a yummy green smoothie on a clear Fall day with lots of diversity, veggies and greens for energy. I personally don’t make iced smoothies in the cooler months. GUT LOVING GREEN SMOOTHIE - banana - sliced frozen zucchini - a few frozen purple cauliflower florets - coconut water/water - scoop of coconut kefir - a huge handful of well washed kale - small knob of ginger - flax (whole) and chia (from fridge!) - plant protein (I used @ora.organic here, code Jordan for a discount) SAVE & MAKE!! Cardiovascular disease & type 2 diabetes are the top disease and mortality burdens worldwide. Grains are high in fibre which the gut microbiome thrives on. Good bacteria help digest food, support immunity and lower inflammation. I can always tell when people eat grain free when I see their GI-MAP because they have such low commensal bacteria. Consumption of oats significantly increased Akkermansia muciniphila & Roseburia bacteria. Oats are a great prebiotic food to help feed your good bacteria so eat up.
